Mark R. Wilson is an associate professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a leading historian of military-industrial relations in the United States. Dr. Wilson currently holds a research fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities during the 2012-13 academic year.

Dr. Wilson's current book project, which he will discuss in this public lecture, concerns the business and politics of the U.S. industrial mobilization for World War II. Over the last several years, Dr. Wilson conducted original research for his book in dozens of business and military archives around the country. He has already published numerous short pieces from his project, including articles in the journals Law and History Review and Enterprise & Society. This year, he is completing the book manuscript. Because the book is still at the writing and revision stage, he is especially eager to hear questions and comments from the audience.

Dr. Wilson received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2002. His Ph.D. dissertation was the basis for his first book, The Business of Civil War: Military Mobilization and the State, 1861-1865 (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006; paperback 2010). In that study, Dr. Wilson used original research in the U.S. Army archives and other sources to reassess the dynamics of the military economy of the Civil War North.
